Mattie Kelly Arts Center

8/25/2015 - Theatrical, Symphony & Youth Orchestra Auditions

Open auditions are being held for the following theatrical opportunities at Northwest Florida State College, as well as auditions for the professional Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra and the youth and junior orchestras. All auditions will be held at the Niceville campus.

Auditions Fall Theatrical Production - Feiffer's People, Tuesday, August 25

Auditions for Northwest Florida State College’s Fall theatrical production of Feiffer’s People, written by Jules Feiffer and directed by Clint Mahle, will be held Tuesday, August 25, 2015. Sign in begins at 6:00pm with auditions starting at 6:30 pm in the Sprint Theater of the college’s Mattie Kelly Arts Center in Niceville. The director asks that a one minute comic monologue be prepared. The cast calls for four men and four women.

Feiffer's People is written by Jules Feiffer, the renowned American humorist, cartoonist and social satirist who is best known for his savvy political and social satires, and most notably his long-run comic strip titled Feiffer. He has created more than 35 books, plays and screenplays. In 1986, he won the Pulitzer Prize for his editorial cartooning.

The play Feiffer's People offers a characteristically inventive and flexible kind of experimental theatre. The work is made up of brief sketches, monologues and playlets which are wildly funny yet bitingly acerbic in the sharp observations that they provide on the state of the union and the modern world in general. The intrinsic merit—and joy—of Feiffer's People lies in its complete freedom of form and richly comic dimension. The college's production is described as "the stage as a forum for projecting a wry and perceptive world-view, encyclopedic in its awareness of human frailty but always softened by the gentle balm of laughter." For information contact Clint Mahle at mahlej@nwfsc.ecu or 729-6007.

Auditions Spring Theatrical Production – The Third Side Wednesday, Sept. 2

Auditions for Northwest Florida State College’s Spring 2016 production of The Third Side, an original full length dramatic thriller, will be held on Wednesday September 2, 2015 pm in the Sprint Theater of the college’s Mattie Kelly Arts Center in Niceville. Sign in begins at 6:00 pm with auditions starting at 6:30 pm. The director asks that a one minute serious monologue be prepared. Casting calls for a flexible cast of 14 (11 male and 3 Female).

As the spring theatrical production of the college’s Humanities, Fine & Performing Arts Division, The Third Side will be the premiere of an original work by written by James Clinton and directed by Clint Mahle, appearing March 16 - 19, 2016.

Featuring a cast of 15, the gritty thriller, part espionage part political, follows a young and proud writer who finds himself in London trying to make his way in the world by climbing the social ladder to success. He finds himself caught between rival forces in the petty intrigues of powerful men and must find his way to survival. The Third Side examines the idea that truth often lies outside the two sides to a story. For information contact Clint Mahle at mahlej@nwfsc.ecu or 729-6007.
