Auditions for NWF State College Production of "Richard III"

Mattie Kelly Arts Center

10/28/2008 - The Fine and Performing Arts Division of Northwest Florida State College will hold auditions for Shakespeare's classic tale of politics and power, and his most noted villain, "Richard III" on Saturday, November 1 at 2 p.m. in the Sprint Theater at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center on the NWF State College Niceville campus. Those auditioning should be prepared to present one serious Shakespeare monologue of no longer than ten lines.

Directed by Clint Mahle, the play has roles for 16 actors, both male and female. With the exception of Richard and Buckingham and the principle female characters, the remaining roles will be doubled. This drama is one of the great history themed plays by William Shakespeare. The play is dominated by Richard depicted as the evil hunchbacked Duke of Gloucester who becomes King Richard III through a series of terrible acts. Richard kills off his enemies, his kinsmen, his wife and most of his supporters. The Wars of the Roses between the Houses of York and Lancaster culminate in the Battle of Bosworth and the defeat of Richard by the Duke of Richmond, who became Henry VII, crying out "My kingdom for a horse."

"Richard III" will be presented March 18 to 21, 2009 in the NWF State College Sprint Theater. Rehearsals begin January 12, 2009 and will run Monday through Friday from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. A firm commitment to these dates is required.

For more information, please call Clint Mahle at 729-6007.
