Arnie Hart Juried Student Exhibition Award Winners Announced, Art Shows Exhibit Through April 19

3/9/2009 - Awards for the annual Arnie Hart Juried Student Exhibition were announced at the gallery opening reception held recently at the galleries at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville. This year's submissions were judged by Barbara J. Swindell, Professor Emerita of Art at Kennesaw State University.

''Best of Show'' was awarded to Patti Gillespie of Niceville for her piece entitled ''Emily''. First place in the 2-Dimensional category went to Joshua Engelkens of Shalimar for ''Eyesore'', second place went to Sandra Clay Harrison of Fort Walton Beach for ''Soft Summer Evening 30-A'', and third place went to Emily M. Knudsen of Fort Walton Beach for ''In Loving Memory''. In the 3-Dimensional category first place went to Lola Miles of Fort Walton Beach for ''Balancing Act'', second place went to Adam Stevens of Niceville for ''Bug'', and third place went to Aaron Stringfellow of Crestview for ''Uncentered''. Merit Awards were given to Kathryn Henson of Niceville, Anita Hester of Fort Walton Beach, and Jennifer Vogel of Fort Walton Beach. Honorable Mentions were given to Denielle Bergens-Harmon of Crestview, Stephanie Crow of Crestview, Edanette Marquez of Destin, Jessica Smith of Crestview, and Roxanne Soja of Crestview. Jean Hart, wife of the late OWC art instructor Arnie Hart, provided a gift to help fund the exhibition and awards. The student exhibition is on display through April 19 in the McIlroy Gallery of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center on the Niceville campus. Works by faculty of the NWF State College Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts Division are on display at the Holzhauer Gallery during the same period. Media in the exhibits includes two-dimensional and three-dimensional works in painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics and more.
