NWF State College's Schola Cantorum Free Holiday Concerts

11/19/2009 - The Northwest Florida State College Schola Cantorum, translated School of Singing, will present a series of free concerts titled ''Angels and Shepherds'' in several locations in December. On Saturday, December 5 at 6:00 pm, the group will perform at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Niceville; on Monday, December 7 at 7:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church in Crestview; on Wednesday, December 9 at 7:15 pm at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Shalimar; on Monday, December 14 at 7:00 pm at the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Niceville, and a final performance on Wednesday, December 16 at 6:30 pm at St. Simon's-on-the Sound Episcopal Church in Fort Walton Beach.

The NWF State College Schola Cantorum is a 12 member select chorus comprised of a diverse group of singers from over the two county area and has performing throughout the region since 2000. The group is directed by John Leatherwood, an emeritus music professor at the college. For more information call 830-2062. The December ''Angels and Shepherds'' program consists of music from across the ages and is mostly unaccompanied by instruments. Included will be: Veni, Veni Emmanuel, Ave Maria, A Hymn to the Virgin, O Magnum Mysterium, Sanctus No. III by J. S. Bach, An A cappella Christmas, O Little Town of Bethlehem, O Holy Night, A Merry Carol of the Bells, At Christmas (A Christmas Sha-na-na), Angels, from the Realms of Glory, Where Shepherds Lately Knelt, and Rise up, Shepherd.
