Mattie Kelly Arts Center Galleries at NWFSC Announce Two New Exhibitions

Mattie Kelly Arts Center

2/10/2010 -

Arnie Hart Juried Student Exhibition and Annual Faculty Exhibition

March 7 to April 18, 2010

The galleries at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center located on the Northwest Florida State College Niceville campus will present two new exhibitions March 7 to April 18, 2010 -- the annual Arnie Hart Student Exhibition and an NWFSC Faculty Exhibition. Both exhibitions are free of charge. A preview reception honoring the artists will be held Friday, March 5, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Included at the reception will be presentation of awards at 5:30 p.m. to the winners of the juried student exhibition. The reception and awards ceremony are free and open to the public. Galleries are open Monday to Thursday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and Sunday afternoons from 1:00 to 4:00 pm and 90 minutes prior to most evening performances in the Mattie Kelly Arts Center.

Each year the finest student works are juried by an art professional for the Arnie Hart show, and this year's field of applicants promises a competitive selection process and an exciting exhibition in the McIlroy Gallery. Student works in a variety of two- and three-dimensional media, including painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, ceramics, computer-generated imagery, and video installation, comprise the exhibition. Art produced by faculty of the NWFSC Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts Division will be on display in the Holzhauer Gallery.

Jean Hart, wife of the late Okaloosa-Walton College art instructor Arnie Hart, provides an annual gift to help fund the Arnie Hart Juried Student Exhibition. Hart, popular and influential for his "cracked pottery" style, taught at OWC from 1966 until his untimely death in 1999. His wife Jean and several friends established the Arnie Hart Art Scholarship Endowment in his memory because of his longtime devotion to his students.

The judge for this year's Student Exhibition is Aletha Carr, a north Florida native and professional artist living in Spring Hill, whose works have been exhibited throughout the Southeast. Her art resides in numerous private and corporate collections, including Bank of America and Delta Airlines.
