NWF State College Presents 'Dance Facets 2010' April 23/24

Mattie Kelly Arts Center

4/14/2010 -

The Northwest Florida State College's Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts Division dance program presents "Dance Facets 2010" on April 23 & 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center on the NWF State College Niceville campus. The college's annual dance performance offers an evening of beauty and grace featuring an eclectic array of musical styles, including Leon Minkus, Hans Zimmer and Joshua Bell, Phillip Glass and Ravi Shankar, music from the movie Transformers and an original work composed by Dr. Jeremy Ribando, that lend inspiration for the original choreography presented by NWF State College dance students and faculty.

Tickets are on sale now for $15 adults and $10 youth. All proceeds go to support the Frances Smith Herron Dance Endowment. The endowment named the NWF State College Dance Studio in memory of the late Frances Herron, an OWC dance instructor who passed away in August 2006, and funds dance scholarships, distinguished visiting artists and enhances Dance Facets productions. Currently enrolled NWFSC students are admitted free of charge with a current student ID.

Fifty-seven dancers will perform ten original dance presentations featuring classical ballet, contemporary, and modern. Special guest choreographer Maria Colaco returns to set her piece two, three, four. The visual and audible movement on stage will be enhanced by special lighting effects designed by NWF State College students and staff. The synergistic effect of dramatic music, ethereal lighting and emotional dance culminates to present artistic interpretations about social realities as well as fantasies. Joining the college's dancers are Grain de Sable from Soullans, France. Grain de Sable is artistically directed by Audrey Balavoine.

Audiences can expect to be energized and entertained with dance segments entitled: Paquita; Always; En Lair; Ressac; Café Tango; Abnormal Discovery; Rein et tout a voir; two, three, four; Pirates; and Ruth.
