Mattie Kelly Arts Center

4/26/2010 - The Arts and Design Society 18th Regional Juried Fine Arts Exhibition and 2009 Best-in-Show Winner, Ed Chandler to be held May 2 through June 3, 2010.

The Arts and Design Society of Fort Walton Beach, Inc. presents the eighteenth Regional Juried Fine Arts Exhibition in the McIlroy Gallery at the Mattie Kelly Fine & Performing Arts Center Galleries at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville. This competitive exhibition perennially attracts top artistic talent from across the southeastern United States and showcases works in a variety of media. This year's juror is Janice Hartwell, nationally known artist who recently has retired from a career as Professor of Art at Florida State University in Tallahassee. She holds a BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston and earned her MFA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Her art has been exhibited throughout the US (including a national solo exhibition in 1999) and resides in numerous corporate, private, and public collections.

The Holzhauer Gallery features the 2009 ADSO Best in Show Ed Chandler. He holds a PhD in clinical psychology from Louisiana State University and is a professional psychotherapist with a practice in Mary Esther. He creates extraordinary images in color photography as he juxtaposes extreme close-up shots with vibrant compositions. Chandler's photography is driven by his eye for the unusual and unnoticed details of life, and his photographs frequently offer surprises in their combinations of natural and industrial or distortions caused by reflections in water, glass, or metals.

An artists' reception and awards ceremony will be held in the galleries on Sunday, May 2 from, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday to Thursday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. For information, contact the Arts Center Galleries 729-6044. The galleries are located in the Mattie Kelly Arts Center complex on the Niceville campus of Northwest Florida State College at 100 College Boulevard. See the center's website at for a map and complete arts events listing.
