'Grease' July 14 - 17, Buy Tickets Now

Mattie Kelly Arts Center

6/17/2010 -

The rollicking musical "Grease" hits the stage July 14 to 17 as the summer production of the Fine and Performing Arts Division at Northwest Florida State College. Set to capture the look and sound of the 1950's in a salute to the rock 'n' roll era, "Grease" appears in the mainstage theater at the college's Mattie Kelly Arts Center in Niceville at 7:30 p.m. each night. Tickets are on sale now by web, phone or in-person from the box office for all performance nights for $20 for adults and $15 for youth age 18 and younger.

Enjoy the magic as the hip Danny Zuko, played by Cameron Daniels of Niceville, and the wholesome Sandra D., played by Rita Dailey of Crestview, try to resolve the problems of their mutual attraction for each other while Rydell High's spirited class of '59 comes to life with a cast of more than 30 duck-tailed, hip-shaking Burger Palace Boys and Pink Ladies Girls.

With favorite songs such as "You're The One That I Want" and "Greased Lightening" the Grease gang will sing and dance their way through such nostalgic scenes as the memorable pajama party, the prom, the burger palace, the drive-in-movie and more. Grease's original 8 year run made Broadway history and its recent national stage revival makes it one of the most popular musicals ever.

"It's just a plain out fun show," said director Dr. Cliff Herron, who is now directing his 21st summer musical at the college. "Our patrons and students have been asking for this musical for several years - so we're quite pleased to be able to do it."

Herron, who serves as the dean of the college's Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts Division and Executive Director of the NWFSC Mattie Kelly Arts Center, noted that both he and the cast, which is comprised of NWFSC students and local actors, are all "having a ball" at rehearsals. "The cast is enthused, the talent is tremendous, and we'll be bringing one heck of a show to the stage," said Herron. He also noted that each night of the performance, a pre-show with members of the cast and a small pit band will perform period rock & roll music from 7:00 to 7:30 p.m. to set the mood for the curtain rising.

For tickets, contact the NWFSC Mattie Kelly Arts Center box office at 729-6000 or purchase tickets on-line at www.mattiekellyartscenter.org. Currently enrolled NWFSC students may receive one free ticket per student ID in-person from the box office. As the college's full scale summer musicals are always the hit of the summer season, early ticket purchase is recommended for best seat selection.

In addition to Cameron Daniels and Rita Dailey in the primary lead roles, other cast members for the NWFSC production of "Grease" will include: Rizzo, Aubrey Russell of Fort Walton Beach; Frenchy, Cara Ratliff of Niceville; Marty, Stephany Heath of Cantonment; Jan, Cricket Sherritze of Niceville; Kenickie, Matt Ruff of Niceville; Doody, Matt Coleman of Niceville; Roger, Stephen Shouse of Fort Walton Beach; Sonny, Kyle Poppell of Destin; Patty, Danielle Fox of Niceville; Cha-Cha, Candace Isaacs of Navarre; Eugene, Jesse Hinton of Crestview; Vince Fontaine, David Simmons of Niceville; Johnny Casino, Hector Delgado of Niceville; Teen Angel, Jeremy Ribando of Niceville and Miss Lynch, Shakira Oswald of Mary Esther.

The Men's Chorus for "Grease" will be Andrew Knight of Fort Walton Beach, Javonte Coleman of Navarre, Jared Gibson of Mary Esther, George Frye of Crestview and Jarrod Tredway of Niceville.

The Women's Chorus for "Grease" will consist of Savannah Lewis of Destin, Lauren Rew of Niceville, Hannah Teal of Crestview, Brittany Schaumann of Santa Rosa Beach, and Ashley Walker of Fort Walton Beach.
