MOMIX October 10, 2:00 pm Mattie Kelly Arts Center - National Touring Season Opener

Mattie Kelly Arts Center

10/6/2010 -

"Botanica's bouquet of dance, athleticism and fantasy is an herbal remedy for an ailing world . . . an event not to be missed!" New York Times

Known internationally for presenting works of exceptional inventiveness and physical beauty, the MOMIX company of dancer-illusionists will present a spectacular blend of athleticism, riveting music, outrageous costumes and eye-popping illusion at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 10 at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center at Norwest Florida State College in Niceville.

MOMIX will present the national tour of its newest extravaganza, "Botanica"-a show which debuted in Italy to sold-ut houses. Tickets are $45 each with a $5 per ticket discount for groups of 10 or more. The Box Office will open at 12:30 pm the day of the show for at-the-door sales, which are the same price as advance tickets.

MOMIX performs to the acclaim of both the press and the public wherever it goes. "The beauty of MOMIX's ideas is partly in their simplicity, partly in their acknowledgment of rhythm, humor, sex and amazing grace of the human body," wrote the San Francisco Bay Guardian.

In MOMIX "Botanica," the exotic, sensual and mystifying realm of nature is re-imagined to an eclectic score ranging from birdsongs to Vivaldi. Flowers bloom, go to seed and die; vegetable, animal and mineral - all in human form - combine and metamorphose. Fabrics, colors, costumes, projections and props create a hypnotic often mythical landscape. The New York Times noted "Botanica's bouquet of dance, athleticism and fantasy is an herbal remedy for an ailing world . . . an event not to be missed!"

In other press, "MOMIX dazzles with indefinable grace, personality," noted the New Orleans Times-Picayune. "Their audience floats out on a dizzying high of pleasure," said the Chicago Tribune. And, "People shouted out, gasped and applauded furiously. MOMIX is ideal for turning audiences onto dance," said the L.A. Herald Examiner. Parental note, certain costuming and programming in "Botanica" may be considered PG-13 rated.

The Mattie Kelly Arts is a $25 million state-of-the-art performance venue located on the eastern edge of the college's Niceville campus at 100 College Boulevard. The center is located just minutes from Interstate 10 or the mid-Bay Bridge, easily accessible to patrons from surrounding communities.
