Junior Orchestra and Youth Orchestra Perform Free Concerts Dec. 11 & 12

Mattie Kelly Arts Center

12/2/2010 -

The Junior Orchestra of Northwest Florida State College and the college sponsored Northwest Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra will present free concerts on December 11 and 12 at the college's Mattie Kelly Arts Center in Niceville.

The Junior Orchestra, an ensemble of young string students in grades 4 to 8 who play violin, viola, cello or string bass, will present their Fall Concert on Saturday, December 11 at 11:00 am in Tyler Recital Hall located in the Music Wing of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center complex. Junior Orchestra members each have at least two years of experience. The talented group of young musicians is a stepping stone to the more advanced Northwest Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra and is the only program of its kind in the area.

The Northwest Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra (NFSYO) will present their Winter Concert in the mainstage theater of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center on Sunday, December 12 at 4:00 p.m. The performance will include music by Mozart, Holst, Wagner and Schubert along with some favorite holiday selections. The concert is free and open to the public, however donations to support the youth program are welcomed.

The NFSYO is comprised of more than 50 talented musicians in grades 4 to12 from Okaloosa, Walton and Santa Rosa Counties. The symphony is conducted by Liz Aylor and the group is sponsored in part by Northwest Florida State College, the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra Guild and individual sponsors. For more information on the performance or the NFSYO please contact the college at 729-5382 or Liz Aylor at 651-4308.

The Junior Orchestra is also under the direction of Liz Aylor and meets on Saturday mornings, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm in room 304 of the Music Wing at NWFSC in Niceville. New members will be accepted for the Spring Semester. For more information please call 651-4308.
