Rhythm of the Dance, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. A National Dance Company of Ireland Presentation Mattie Kelly Arts Center

Mattie Kelly Arts Center

2/18/2011 -

A two-hour Celtic dance and music extravaganza, "Rhythm Of The Dance", presented by the National Dance Company of Ireland, appears on Friday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. as the final show of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center national touring season. This internationally acclaimed Irish step dance production showcases a tale deep from Irish lore in a richly costumed show that combines traditional dance and music with a thousand-year-old story - immersing audiences in the music and mystery of the Emerald Isle.

To create the dynamic yet beautiful "Rhythm Of The Dance" only the cream of Irish dancers, musicians and singers are recruited for the cast which includes a live band, three tenors and some 22 dancers. The cast is meticulously selected for their various outstanding talents to make "Rhythm of the Dance" a wonderful spectacle fit for audiences of all ages.

Since its debut performance in 1999 on stage in Norway, "Rhythm Of The Dance" has played to over 4.5 million fans in 44 countries worldwide and appeared live on Chinese TV for a Millennium celebration to an audience of 700 million TV viewers. The energy and quality of the show has meant it is repeatedly re-booked in most cities in which it is performed - touring for some forty weeks a year to become internationally rated as one of the most popular and busiest Irish step dance shows in the world.

Woven throughout the show is an inspiring epic, reliving the journey of the Irish Celts throughout history. For decades, the Celtic clans of Leinster and Ulster were at war. These once peaceful people were driven into battle by their rulers’ lust for land and power. Following the last great battle of their time, both rulers stood no more. With the Emerald Isle left in ruins, two great Celtic warriors stand to rebuild what is lost. As the new generation comes to power, with them comes a glimmer of hope, the hope that one day, the Emerald Isle shall stand united and peace shall reign over the lands once more.

Tickets to "Rhythm Of The Dance" are $35 each or $30 for groups of 10 or more.
