Big River Auditions May 2 at NWF State College

Mattie Kelly Arts Center

4/22/2011 -

Northwest Florida State College's Fine and Performing Arts Division announces open auditions for the Summer Musical theatre production of "Big River" on Monday, May 2, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. on the mainstage of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center at the college's Niceville campus. "Big River" has a cast of 24 (14 men and 10 women with doubling). Rehearsals will begin on Tuesday, May 31 and will typically be held Monday to Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. until tech week, July 11 to 16. Performances dates are set for Wednesday to Saturday, July 20, 21, 22 and 23. For further information please call the Office at 729-5382. No special prepared material is necessary. All needed audition material will be passed out that night.

"Big River" is a musical adaption of Mark Twain's classic novel "Huckleberry Finn". Propelled by an award winning score from Roger Miller, the King of Country Music, this jaunty journey provides a brilliantly theatrical celebration of pure Americana that sweeps the audience down the mighty Mississippi as the irrepressible Huck Finn helps his friend Jim, a slave, escape to freedom at the mouth of the Ohio River. Their adventures along the way are hilarious, suspenseful and heartwarming - bringing to life your favorite characters from the Twain novel. "Big River" won Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Score, Best Featured Actor in A Musical, Best Scenic Design, Best Direction of a Musical and Best Costume Design in 1985. Tickets go on sale May 31 for $25 adult and $20 youth, ages 18 and younger from the Mattie Kelly Arts Center Box Office at (850) 729-6000 or by web at www.mattiekellyartscenter.org. ##
