Juried Student Exhibition

2/8/2012 - The galleries at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville will present two new exhibitions March 2 through April 20, 2012 - the annual Arnie Hart Juried Student Exhibition and NWFSC Faculty Exhibition.

An Opening Reception honoring the artists will be held Friday, March 2, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and awards will be presented at 5:30 p.m. The reception and awards ceremony are free and open to the public. Regular gallery hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday and 90 minutes prior to most evening performances in the Mattie Kelly Arts Center. Admission to the galleries is free.

Each year the finest student works are juried by an art professional for the Arnie Hart show; this year's field of applicants promises a competitive selection process and an exciting exhibition in the McIlroy Gallery. Student works in a variety of two- and three-dimensional media, including painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, ceramics, computer-generated imagery, and video installation, comprise the exhibition. Art produced by faculty of the Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts Division of NWFSC will be on display in the Holzhauer Gallery.

Jean Hart, wife of the late college art instructor Arnie Hart, provides an annual gift to help fund the Arnie Hart Juried Student Exhibition. Hart, popular and influential for his "cracked pottery" style, taught at Okaloosa Walton Community College (now named NWF State) from 1966 until his untimely death in 1999. His wife Jean and several friends established the Arnie Hart Art Scholarship Endowment in his memory to honor his longtime devotion to his students.

The judge for this year's Student Exhibition is Dr. Anita G. (Gleny) Beach, artist and educator, from Durant, Oklahoma. Beach currently is an Assistant Professor of Art and Art Education and Director of the Art Division of the Fine Arts Department at Southeast Oklahoma State University. She earned a PhD in Art Education from the University of North Texas and is an active visual artist.
