4/3/2012 - The galleries at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center at Northwest Florida State College currently feature two new exhibitions through April 21, 2012 -- the annual Arnie Hart Student Exhibition and the NWFSC Faculty Exhibition. Each year the finest student works are juried by an art professional and a competitive selection process for an exciting exhibition in the McIlroy Gallery. Student works in a variety of two- and three-dimensional media, including painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, ceramics, computer-generated imagery, and video installation, comprise the exhibition. Art works produced by faculty of the college's Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts Division are on display in the Holzhauer Gallery.

The galleries are open free of charge Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and additional evening hours on April 17, 20 and 21 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. prior to performances in the Mattie Kelly Arts Center theaters. The galleries are also open by appointment for classes or groups.

The judge for this year's Student Exhibition was Dr. Anita G. (Gleny) Beach, artist and educator, from Durant, Oklahoma, who currently is an Assistant Professor of Art and Art Education and Director of the Art Division of the Fine Arts Department at Southeast Oklahoma State University. She earned a PhD in Art Education from the University of North Texas and is an active visual artist.

Jean Hart, wife of the late college art instructor Arnie Hart, provides an annual gift to help fund the Arnie Hart Juried Student Exhibition. Hart, popular and influential for his "cracked pottery" style, taught at Okaloosa-Walton College from 1966 until his untimely death in 1999. His wife Jean and several friends established the Arnie Hart Art Scholarship Endowment in his memory to honor his longtime devotion to his students.
