4/4/2012 - Northwest Florida State College's Fine & Performing Arts Division announces open auditions for individuals age 16 or older for the college's 2012 Summer Musical, THE WIZ on Monday, April 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the mainstage theater of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center on the Niceville campus. Auditions are open to both the community and NWFSC and casting for the show will be based solely on the best individual for a given role. THE WIZ is a seven-time Tony Award-winning Broadway musical version of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" by L. Frank Baum. THE WIZ sets Dorothy's adventures in the Land of Oz to music in a dazzling, lively mixture of rock, gospel and soul.

THE WIZ has a cast of 11 principals with at least 10-15 additional cast members. Auditions will consist of singing and dancing. The general audition number is "Ease on Down the Road" and specific call-backs include "I was Born the Day Before Yesterday" and "Home." The production will include doubling of characters to keep the cast as small as possible.

Audition registration begins at 6:00 p.m. Rehearsals start May 7 and conclude with performances on July 18, 19, 20, and 21. A complete rehearsal schedule will be provided at the audition. So bring your best musical theatre attitude and "Ease on Down the Road" to audition for this summer musical carnival of fun for the entire family! Call the NWFSC Fine and Performing Arts Office at 850-729-5382 for more information.

Tickets for THE WIZ go on sale at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center box office on May 1. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for youth age 18 and younger. There is a $2 per ticket box office processing fee. Tickets may be purchased online at the center's website at www.mattiekellyartscenter.org or by phone or in-person from the box office at (850) 729-6000.
