Open Auditions for A Midsummer Night's Dream, December 8

Mattie Kelly Arts Center

11/14/2012 - Northwest Florida State College is pleased to announce open auditions for its spring production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, William Shakespeare's most popular comedy, on Saturday, December 8, 2012 in the Sprint Theater of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center on the Niceville Campus at 2:00 p.m. The audition is open to NWFSC students or community members age 16 and older.

A Midsummers Night's Dream portrays the adventures of four young lovers and a group of amateur actors, and their interactions with woodland fairies and a duke and duchess. Taking place in a mythical Athens and an enchanted forest, there is a handsome fairy king, a misguided parent, star-crossed lovers, a weaver who's transformed into a half-donkey, wood sprites and elves. The work is widely performed around the world.

The college's production calls for roles for nineteen people. At least six men are required. However, nontraditional casting may occur for the remaining roles. Those who audition should come prepared with a ten line monologue from a Shakespeare comedy. The monologue required to audition. For information, please contact the production's director, Clint Mahle, at (850) 729-6007 or e-mail mahlej@nwfsc.edu for further information.

The NWFSC production of A Midsummers Night's Dream will be performed March 13 to 16, 2013 in the Sprint Theater, the smaller of the two stages at the college's Mattie Kelly Fine and Performing Arts Center on the NWFSC Niceville Campus. The NWFSC theatrical version of A Midsummers Night's Dream will be staged the same month as the Northwest Florida Ballet performs the dance version of the Shakespeare comedy, set to the music of Felix Mendelssohn, on March 9 and 10 in the center's mainstage theater.

"Shakespeare's comedic genius will shine as both of these very different productions will enchant and amuse local audiences," noted NWFSC director Clint Mahle, who said tickets for the college production will go on sale December 1 for $15 for adults and $10 for youth ages 18 and younger. Tickets are available by calling the Mattie Kelly Arts Center Box Office at (850) 729-600 or online at www.mattiekellyartscenter.org
