This new production of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg's musical Les Misérables is based on the novel by Victor Hugo and was an original London Production by Cameron Mackintosh and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Set in early 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells the story of Jean Valjean, a former prisoner who breaks his parole in the quest for redemption and a new life. Due to the anticipated popularity of the production, the show will appear for seven nights over a two-week period. The play will be the final production directed by Dr. Cliff Herron, long-time dean of the college's renowned arts programs, who will retire at the end of August 2013.

Michael Dye, choral director at Niceville High School, captured the role of Jean Valjean, with Annie Melia of Niceville cast as Fantine, the self-sacrificing mother who devotes her life to ensuring the welfare of her daughter. Fantine's daughter, Cosette, will be played by Hannah Moore of Niceville. Clint Mahle of DeFuniak Springs was cast as the harsh police inspector Javert who relentlessly pursues Valjean.

The roles of Thenardier and Mme Thenardier will be played by Denis Milonas of Mary Esther and Allison Everitt of Niceville, respectively. Mallory Olds of Niceville is cast as the Thenardiers' daughter, Eponine. Student activist Marius will be played by Sivu Schlegel of Niceville and Tim Norton is cast in the role of Enjolras, the charismatic student leader.

A full chorus ensemble was also cast for the sing-through pop opera. Male ensemble members include: Miramar Beach: Okeye Mitchell, Aaron Valenzuela; Fort Walton Beach: Stephen Shouse; Navarre: Donovan Black, Blake Williams; Niceville: Nicholas Tyler Corbin, Hector Delgado, Colin Dermody, Brett Huston, Zachary Pecore, Zachary Phillips, David Simmons, Brian Snyder, Paul Tessier, and Dominick Trolian.

Female members of the chorus ensemble include: Fort Walton Beach: Meghan Erlacher, Gabbi Lindley; Mary Esther: Maddie Ostrowski; Valparaiso: Wendy Justice; Santa Rosa Beach: Dayna Iscano; Niceville: Victoria Bishop, Kimberly Bridges, Mari Burdge, Danielle C. Fox, Megan James, Holly Johnson, Katie Pickler and Brittany Swain.

An audition for children's roles including young Cosette, young Eponine and Gavroche will be held on Saturday, March 9, at 9:30 a.m. in the Tyler Recital Hall. Contact the Fine & Performing Arts Division office at 729-5382 for more information on the youth audition.
