Mattie Kelly Arts Center Galleries - Two New Exhibitions February 28 to April 5

Mattie Kelly Arts Center

2/14/2013 - The galleries at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center at Northwest Florida State College will present two new exhibitions February 28 through April 5, 2013: the annual Arnie Hart Juried Student Exhibition and the NWFSC Faculty Exhibition. Each year the finest student works are juried by an art professional for the Arnie Hart show. This year's field of applicants promises a competitive selection process and an exciting exhibition in the McIlroy Gallery. Student works in a variety of two- and three-dimensional media, including painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, ceramics, computer-generated imagery, and video installation, comprise the exhibition. Art produced by faculty of the Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts Division of NWFSC will be on display in the Holzhauer Gallery.

An Opening Reception honoring the artists will be held Thursday, February 28 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and awards will be presented at 5:30 p.m. The reception, awards ceremony, and exhibitions are free of charge and open to the public. Galleries are open 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday – Friday and 90 minutes prior to most evening performances in the Mattie Kelly Arts Center.

Jean Hart, wife of the late art instructor Arnie Hart, provides an annual gift to help fund the Arnie Hart Juried Student Exhibition. Hart, popular and influential for his "cracked pottery" style, taught at then Okaloosa-Walton Junior College from 1966 until his untimely death in 1999. His wife Jean and several friends established the Arnie Hart Art Scholarship Endowment in his memory to honor his longtime devotion to his students.

The judge for this year's Student Exhibition is Sara Dismukes, an Associate Professor of Design at Troy University. Dismukes is the co-founder and Director for iC3: The International Center for Collaboration and Creativity. ##
