New Junior String Orchestra at NWF State College, Student Musicians Wanted

Mattie Kelly Arts Center

9/3/2008 - Registration forms for membership in the new Junior String Orchestra at Northwest Florida State College are now available. The group is open to young string students in grades 4 to 8 who live in Okaloosa and surrounding counties and who have at least 2 years of music experience. The group is under the direction of Liz Aylor, who is also the music director of the Northwest Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra at NWF State College, the Symphonic Strings program of Okaloosa County, and a former member of the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra and the Pensacola Symphony.

The new Junior String Orchestra provides a stepping stone to the more advanced Northwest Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra. Once a student is enrolled in the Junior String Orchestra, they may be eligible to audition for the NFSYO after completing at least one semester and upon the recommendation of the Music Director.

The group will meet on Saturday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Orchestra room of the Music Wing at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center at the NWF State College Niceville campus. Rehearsals begin September 13. The registration fee is $125 per semester. Musicians will perform a concert at the end of each semester. For more information or a registration form, please contact Liz Aylor at 651-4308 no later than Wednesday, September 10.
