3/3/2014 - PIANO RECITAL - Music of Bach, Beethoven & Brahms – Saturday March 15

Lois Van Dam, a music professor at Northwest Florida State College, will perform a piano recital featuring the music of Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms on Saturday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Tyler Recital Hall at the college’s Mattie Kelly Arts Center in Niceville.

At the recital, professor Van Dam will perform Bach’s Italian Concerto and Beethoven’s Sonata No. 21 in C Major, Op. 53 (Waldstein), as well as four Brahms selections. The recital is free of charge with donations accepted at the door.

Ms. Van Dam has been professionally involved in music for more than thirty years and teaches piano and voice at the college. She performs frequently as a solo pianist and accompanist, and annually presents faculty piano recitals. She is also conductor of the Northwest Florida Symphony Chorale and the college’s select women’s ensemble, Belle Voci. Also a choral composer and arranger, her works have been performed in a number of venues across the country.

In the community, Ms. Van Dam is organist and choir director at St. Andrew’s by the Sea Episcopal Church in Destin. She has also served as pianist for Florida All-State and All-County groups numerous times in the past 10 years. From January 2006 to June 2007, she served as interim conductor and music director of the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, and she presently performs with the orchestra as pianist. She served as the high school All-County choral clinician for Okaloosa County in 2011 and 2004.

Before moving to Niceville in 2002, Ms. Van Dam lived in the Boston area, where she taught at Eastern Nazarene College, serving as conductor of the college’s Choral Union and Orchestra and as piano instructor. She was also pianist and often served as chorus master for Boston’s Chorus pro Musica, and in that capacity prepared the group for performances with the Boston Pops and the Pittsburgh Symphony.
