4/28/2014 - Camp Glee at NWF State Offers Youth Training in Theatre, Voice & Dance

The Fine and Performing Arts Division at Northwest Florida State College will offer the ultimate in musical theatre training this summer for students from rising 8th grade through college age in "Camp Glee", from June 9 to July 3. Participants receive concentrated training from college faculty in acting, voice, makeup, dance and staging at the college’s Mattie Kelly Arts Center in Niceville and then will star in the drama “Beauty & the Beast, Jr.” on July 3 in the center’s Sprint Theater. No prior experience in theater is needed to participate in Camp Glee.

Camp Glee classes meet Monday to Thursday, 8:30 am to 1:45 pm from June 9 to July 3, 2014. Enrollment is now open. Dual Enrollment credit for the Camp Glee classes is available to qualified high school students; with certain fees covered under the Dual Enrollment program.

Students who have never been enrolled at NWFSC should complete NWFSC admissions either on-line or in-person at any NWFSC location. All dual or concurrent students must enroll through the Dual/Concurrent Office in the Student Services Center (SSC) on the Niceville campus. For more information on Camp Glee contact Diana Jernigan in the NWFSC Fine Arts Office at 729-5382.

To enroll in Camp Glee use NWFSC course numbers:

• DAA 1580-090048 (Musical Theater Dance I – one credit) and

• THE 2820-090174 (Creative Dramatics I) or THE 2821 - 090175 if it is the second time a student has enrolled in the program (3 credits).

The Camp Glee performance of “Beauty & the Beast, Jr.” on July 3 is free of charge and open to the public with two performances at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm in the Sprint Theater at the Mattie Kelly Fine & Performing Arts Center. Open seating is on a first come basis. For information on group seating contact Delores Merrill, house manager at 729-6065.

Camp Glee is taught by Allison Everitt, NWFSC voice professor; Uli Dunbar, NWFSC dance professor, as well as Christa Whittaker, drama instructor at Fort Walton Beach High School and adjunct NWFSC professor. The creative dramatics Camp Glee program is now in its 17th year at the college.
