11/13/2014 - “A Christmas Carol” SOLD OUT,Other College Holiday Events Available Nov. 21- Dec. 13

The “A Christmas Carol: In Concert” event scheduled for December 5 and 6, 2014 at Northwest Florida State College is SOLD OUT. There are no tickets available for any of the three performance dates/times. There is no waiting list. Patrons may contact the Box Office on the first performance date (Dec. 5) to check on the availability of seating.Produced by the college’s renowned Fine & Performing Arts Division, “A Christmas Carol: In Concert” features 53 cast members, singers and dancers who will bring the classic Charles Dickens tale to life in the college’s Sprint Theater at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center in Niceville.

“We are thrilled to have sold out all 3 shows this early, but want to encourage patrons to attend our other holiday offerings because most feature many of the same exceptional vocalists and performers who will appear in A Christmas Carol,” noted Dr. Jeremy Ribando, Chair of the NWF State College Fine & Performing Arts Division.

Other free and ticketed holiday and cultural events produced by the college in November and December are noted below. Free events do not require a ticket and seating is on a first come basis. "Messiah & More" Concert with the Northwest Florida Symphony Chorale on Friday, November 21, at 7:30 pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Niceville featuring more than 40 vocalists and 17 musicians from the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra. Free of Charge.

“The Marvel of This Night” Christmas Concerts with the college’s vocal group Schola Cantorum on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm December 3, 10 and 17th at area churches (St. Simon’s on the Sound Episcopal Church in Fort Walton, First Presbyterian Church in Crestview; Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Shalimar respectively). Free of Charge.

Northwest Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra Winter Concert (NFSYO) on Sunday, December 7 at 2:00 pm in the mainstage theater of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center featuring the talented young musicians of the NFSYO. Free of Charge.

NWF State College Jazz Ensemble Winter Concert on Monday, December 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the mainstage theater of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center. Free of Charge.

"Holiday Pops!" Concert with the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra and Northwest Florida Symphony Chorale on Friday, December 12 at 7:30 pm in the mainstage theater of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center featuring the professional NFSO in joint concert with the Chorale. $25 adult, $18 Active Duty Military and $18 youth. NWFSC students one free with student ID, space permitting.

There is also a guest event sponsored by WSBZ Seabreeze 106 Smooth Jazz radio on Saturday, December 13 at 7:30 p.m., “A Peter White Christmas, w Rick Braun & Mindi Abair”. Tickets are $80 and $40.

“Handel’s Messiah & More” Nov. 21 - Free Holiday Concert by Northwest Florida Symphony Chorale

The Northwest Florida Symphony Chorale will present portions of Handel’s Messiah along with Messe de Minuit pour Noël (Midnight Mass for Christmas) at a free concert Friday, November 21 at 7:30 pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Niceville. The Chorale, soloists, and instrumentalists from the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by NWF State College music professor Lois Henry.

The Chorale will perform Part One of Messiah by George Frederic Handel, as well as the work’s glorious Hallelujah Chorus. Additionally, a delightful work composed by Marc-Antoine Charpentier for midnight mass in Paris in 1694 will be presented -- Messe de Minuit pour Noël, which is based on French carol tunes.

Seating is on a first come basis. The church is located at 1407 East John Sims Parkway and is hosting the popular holiday concert for the second year in a row. Donations to support the Chorale will be accepted at the door at this free event.

The Northwest Florida Symphony Chorale is a select choral group of talented vocalists from the college and the community who perform with the professional Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra (NFSO) as well as in independent concerts. In addition to “Messiah & More”, the Chorale will also perform at the NFSO’s Holiday Pops concert on December 12 and the orchestra’s April 11, 2015 “A Night At the Opera” concert.

Featured soloists for “Messiah & More” will include NWF State College scholarship vocalists Katie Pickler, soprano; Carla Von Kaenel, mezzo soprano; Sivu Schlegel, tenor and Donovan Black baritone, all from Niceville, along with NWF State adjunct voice faculty member Amy Bullard. A number of additional soloists for the concert will feature chorale members.

The Marvel of This Night – Free Christmas Concerts by Schola Cantorum

The Northwest Florida State College sponsored Schola Cantorum vocal ensemble presents a series of free Christmas concerts titled “The Marvel of This Night” in December at area churches. All concerts begin at 7:00 pm and are free of charge with donations accepted to support the music programs at NWFSC. The “Marvel of this Night” concerts will feature a variety of traditional and contemporary Christmas music from the 14th century to present including the Kyrie and Gloria from Mass of the Nativity by Richard Shepard, Sleep Holy Baby, A Maiden Most Gentle, The Wexford Carol, O Come O Come Emmanuel, Glory to the Newborn King, Go Tell It On the Mountain and more.

The concerts will be held Wednesdays, December 3rd at St. Simon’s on the Sound Episcopal Church on Hwy 98 in Fort Walton Beach; December 10 at First Presbyterian Church in Crestview; and December 17 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Shalimar. Schola Cantorum is under the direction of NWFSC adjunct music professor John Leatherwood, who is also the emeritus (retired) conductor of the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra. Musical accompaniment will be provided by Carolyn Schlatter, piano; Robin Horne, flute and Carole Hayes, violin.

Free NWF State Honors Recital, Dec. 5, Tyler Recital Hall, Mattie Kelly Arts Center

The Fine and Performing Arts Division of Northwest Florida State College will hold its Fall Honors Recital at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5 in the Tyler Recital Hall of the music wing at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center on the college’s Niceville campus. The recital is free of charge and open to the public. The Honors Recital is held at the end of each semester to showcase the most successful Northwest Florida State College student vocal and instrumental performances of the term. Free Winter Concert - Youth Orchestra, Dec. 7 at Mattie Kelly Arts Center

The Northwest Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra (NFSYO) will present a free winter concert on Sunday, December 7 at 2:00 pm in the mainstage theater of the Mattie Kelly Fine & Performing Arts Center on the Niceville campus of Northwest Florida State College. The concert is free and open to the public, with donations to support the youth program welcomed. In 1998, a grant from the Northwest Florida Symphony Guild established the NFSYO as the region’s first youth orchestra program. The NFSYO is comprised of talented middle school, high school and early collegiate musicians through the age of 21. Participants in the NFYSO and the college’s Junior Orchestra programs benefit from the state-of-the-art facilities of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center, instruction by NWF State College music faculty and affiliation & collaboration with the professional Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra. Free Jazz Concert - NWF State Jazz Ensemble Dec. 8 at Mattie Kelly Arts Center

The Jazz Ensemble of Northwest Florida State College will present a free Winter Concert on Monday, December 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the mainstage theater of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center on the Niceville Campus of Northwest Florida State College featuring a wide selection of seasonal and jazz favorites as well as new works. The concert is free of charge, with no ticket required. The popular, talented group is comprised of NWFSC students and is led by Fred Domulot and Tom Latenser. Holiday Pops Concert – Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, Dec. 12 at Mattie Kelly Arts Center

The Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra will ring in the holiday season in festive style Friday, December 12 at 7:30 pm with a Holiday Pops concert. The sounds of the season will fill the air as the NFSO, joined by the Northwest Florida Symphony Chorale, performs some of the most beautiful season music ever written. It's an evening for everyone with popular holiday fare, a carol sing-along with the audience, and festive holiday and Christmas music. The NFSO Holiday Pops concert is sponsored by ERA American Realty.

Now in its 28th season, the NFSO is the Emerald Coast's premier, fully-professional orchestra and performs in residence at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville. The concert is part of the NFSO’s 2014-15 "A Musical Voyage” season that reflects a broad spectrum of artists, events and music from around the globe.

The NFSO was established in 1987 under the auspices of Northwest Florida State College. The NFSO is under the direction of Jeffrey Rink, Music Director and Conductor. Rink is also a faculty member at NWF State College, and holds the Mattie M. Kelly Distinguished Endowed Teaching Chair in Music and Orchestra Conducting.

A Peter White Christmas featuring Rick Braun and Mindi Abair

Smooth jazz and jingle bells return to the Emerald Coast in this unique blend of contemporary jazz and holiday music on Saturday, December 13 in the mainstage theater of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville. This wildly popular annual holiday event is presented by Seabreeze 106.3 FM. Tickets are $80 for the main floor front section and $40 reserved (all other seating).

Internationally-renowned guitarist PETER WHITE is joined by trumpeter RICK BRAUN and singer/saxtress MINDI ABAIR for this annual holiday concert, which has become a tradition on the Gulf Coast.
